A couple weeks ago we received our Jonathan Adler Spring catalog in the mail and let me just say, there may or may not have been some drool stains on it by the time we got to the end. Back in 2019 (seems like ages ago, right?) we wrote about all the Fall trends that we were swooning over at Anthropologie. It seems we are always swooning over something at Anthropologie but that's another blog post. The trend curve for home decor is a mighty long one, primarily because of the investment made in buying furniture. No longer relegated to the patio or sunroom, the incorporation of natural elements in a space adds an additional level of texture and warmth. Plus for us Gen Xers, rattan and cane furniture rank right up there with macramé and avocado green on the nostalgia meter and don't we all need a little vintage flashback in our lives?

We are officially back in the swing of things here at SGD. One nice thing that came out of the Covid Quarantine was a surge of Virtual Clients. I suppose all those hours of staring at the same rooms in your home and coming to the realization that you really hate that sofa inspired people to do something about it. In addition, we've ramped back up on current projects, are planning some photo shoots, and have some exciting new projects to share with you in the coming weeks. 
And as much as we love Wayfair, West Elm and the like, we also think it is important to support smaller home furnishings brands. So, the down time has also given us the chance to find new shopping resources and we are excited to share some of those with you in this post.

Up until now, our "go-to" for vintage home decor has been Chairish, so it's nice that there's another game in town to have as a resource. What started as a retail store in Chicago over 20 years ago has grown to a significant online business yet with the customer service standard you expect from a local retailer. If there was ever a reason to road trip to Chicago, this would be one of them. 

AMARA

With brands like Jonathan Adler, Seletti, Orla Kiely, and Missoni Home, Amara showcases the best of luxury home brands. We also saw pieces carried by our friends at Scout Design in Dallas (go buy from them though), so when you are looking for a special gift or an amazing show-stopper, this is the place to go. Their private label brand, A by Amara offers curated collections twice a year in addition to the Essentials Collection with elegant basics for every home. These are crazy times, my friends. I know all of us that are small business owners are feeling the pain of social distancing maybe more than others but we can still support one another! Our reading audience is from all over the world  but the biggest concentration is here in the DFW metroplex. Then we have other friends and followers that are out of town and doing the daily grind, living their dream and trying to make it through this nightmare. Hands down, the number one question we get when posting a reveal photo is "where is that rug from?" Hands. Down. Now, because of Shauna's love of rugs you might think that we tend to splurge on rugs we buy for clients. And in some cases, we do. These clients are looking for one-of-a-kind pieces and willing to invest in the purchase and care of high end rugs. BUT, 90% of the time, clients want rugs that look good, are easy to care for, can hide a spill of red wine, and can be upgraded or switch out after a few years without the guilt of replacing something that cost a fortune. 
Obviously, the cost of a rug is going to vary by size, but we've found that there are a heck of a lot of great rugs out there for very reasonable prices.
