In a recent podcast episode, a listener asked the question: "What decor item do you typically start with in your designs?"
The answer 99% of the time is the rug. We are firm believers that a rug sets the tone for the room, the design and the overall vibe of the space. Functionally, the choice of rug is dependent on the client's budget, how durable they need it to be (kids and pets, you know), and size requirements. There are lots of resources out there for rugs, so we wanted to give you a quick, down and dirty guide on where to shop for your home. Rugs USA Wide variety of styles, price points, and sizes. You can find pretty much anything here. And so can everyone else. But, if you are not so concerned about originality, there's a ton to choose from here.
FLOR
You might hear the words carpet tiles and think of the industrial, tired, gray squares in corporate office buildings. Not so with carpet tiles from FLOR. With designs ranging from floral to stripes and abstracts, there is a style for everyone. Super easy to snap together, and even easier to snap off and replace when that inevitable wine stain happens.
Loloi
A wholesale company that is based in Dallas, we discovered them at the Dallas Market a few years ago. Since then, their partnerships have grown to include Justina Blakeney and Rifle Paper Co., which we love. Find them on Wayfair and Anthropologie.
Wendy Morrison
We discovered Wendy via her rugs sold on Anthropologie (sadly, no longer available). Since then, we've had custom rugs made for two clients and they are works of art. It's about a 4 month process from order to shipping, but most certainly worth it.
Revival Rugs
Specializing in vintage rugs from Morocco and Turkey, these rugs are perfect for those weirdly sized spaces like foyers, mud rooms, and bathrooms. You will be surprised at how reasonable they are, AND buying vintage is good for the environment. If you can't make it to Morocco, you can at least bring Morocco home. Right now, use code 7PKNN8 to save $40 off your purchase of $250 or more!
Ruggable
We will admit, we were a bit skeptical at first as to the aesthetic of a velcro attached piece of fabric to a pad. But we had so many clients asking about them, we had to try it out. Pickins were slim, as they say, when we first started looking. But then they launched a Jonathan Adler collection, and now an Iris Apfel collection and we find ourselves a bit more enthusiastic about the product. The runner has been in Shauna's kitchen for several months now, and I think she is sold.

Owning a vintage one-of-a-kind rug is like owning a piece of art and we love the aesthetic of mixing new and old in our designs. Up until recently, we’ve struggled to find amazing vintage rugs to put in client’s homes so when we found out about the great selection at Revival Rugs it was a moment of celebration. Their mission is simple, to bring rugs of excellent quality to the market at affordable prices. Sure, you can buy a vintage Persian rug anywhere for thousands of dollars but you shouldn’t have to. Their collection of vintage rugs are one-of-a-kind and made between 30 and 100 years ago. We don’t have to tell you that rugs of this quality are made to last another 30-100 years or more, so they are an investment. It’s hard to imagine in today’s IKEA world of “disposable” furniture, but home furnishings like furniture and rugs were at one time crafted by hand with as much care and skill as one would take to build a home or create a piece of art. Even the new rugs sold by Revival Rugs are hand-crafted at every stage of production from wool selection to hand-finishing. So, you know you are getting a high-quality product. When it comes to rugs, we feel like runners don’t get the love they deserve. Maybe because they are relegated to secondary places in the home like hallways and stairs, but that is precisely why we love a good runner. Now, putting a runner on stairs is a tricky situation. You’ll have to tack down with little nails if you have floating stairs, or use a rug adhesive and staple gun with traditional stairs. Might be best to consult a professional for that little project. In any case, we’ve picked out two amazing runners and are gifting one to a lucky follower! Head over to our Instagram page for all the info on how to enter to win. And be sure to follow @Revival_rugs to get the first peek of their latest arrivals of vintage rugs.
Also, for a limited time you can shop their selection of ALL rugs and save 10% with Promo Code SHAUNAGLENN10. Hands down, the number one question we get when posting a reveal photo is "where is that rug from?" Hands. Down. Now, because of Shauna's love of rugs you might think that we tend to splurge on rugs we buy for clients. And in some cases, we do. These clients are looking for one-of-a-kind pieces and willing to invest in the purchase and care of high end rugs. BUT, 90% of the time, clients want rugs that look good, are easy to care for, can hide a spill of red wine, and can be upgraded or switch out after a few years without the guilt of replacing something that cost a fortune. Obviously, the cost of a rug is going to vary by size, but we've found that there are a heck of a lot of great rugs out there for very reasonable prices. If you are looking for a quick and easy refresh of a room, spending $500 on new rugs and pillows can seriously work wonders. Check out our favorites and get that room refreshed for spring!
